Jungle Safari
There are 14 National Parks and Wildlife Reserves located in the Terai or plains regions of Nepal, which attract visitors from all over the world. Our set itineraries below are for the Royal Chitwan National Park one of the most popular ones in Nepal and said to be the best in all of Asia as well as the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Camp. However, we can arrange for any trip to the National Park of your Choice. For more information on National Parks visit Travellers Nepal a Tourist guide at www.catmando.com/tn or the Nepal Tourism board at www.welcomenepal.com.

Royal Chitwan National Park: This park was established in 1973 as wildlife preserve. Previously it was the hunting grounds for the Nepali Royalty. It is one of Nepal’s largest forest regions and covers 967sq km of sub-tropical forests, grasslands, and swamps. This dense tropical jungle is teeming with wildlife and is a sanctuary to the endangered species of One Horned rhinoceros, Royal Bengal Tiger, sloth bears, wild boars, leopards, several species of croco- diles, dear, and monkeys In brief it houses over 43 species of mammals and 400 species of birds.

Jungle activities: These include elephant ride safaris, dugout-canoe trips, jungle walks, jeep safaris, and visits with the local Tharu tribe who share their local songs and dance. This natural park is a unique experience of nature found nowhere else. Come feel the breath of the jungle with its many aromas and the calls of wild animals.

Koshu Tappu Wildlife Camp: A luxury safari tented camp nestled within Tappu Wildlife Reserve in South Western Nepal. This unique experience offers a most extraordinary chance to view almost 400 species of bird life and some very rare wild game. It is ideal for bird watchers, nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts alike. This reserve, extending 175 sq. kms, was first established in 1976 in order to protect rare wild buffaloes.

The best way to explore this wildlife reserve is by foot over grasslands, river lagoons and woodlands. The wetlands here offer one of the best and finest bird watching sanctuaries in Asia. The Camp itself has 24 luxury tents with simple but modern toilets and hot and cold showering facilities. The restaurant, which has a fully furnished bar, serves simple and tasty Nepali and Western cuisine.

Things to do: The Koshi Tappu Wildlife Camp offers a large range of activities depending on the individuals interests in order to view wildlife at its best. The exploration of the reserve is done with the aid of a trained local naturalist and 'shikaris' who are seasoned wildlife experts. There are morning treks to river lagoons and wetlands that provide excellent opportunities to see birdlife, deer, and herds of water buffaloes.

A float down stream gives one a very good chance to view the fresh water Gangtic dolphins, marsh muggers and the endangered gharial crocodiles. Also there are village excursions to visit the local Tharu tribe and check out their customs.

How to get there: One can get here by Air, Land and Water. One, fly from Kathmandu to the Biratnagar airport and then drive for one and half-hours.Or, two, take a scenic 9-hour drive through the Nepali countryside. By far the most exciting route, three, Raft down the Sun Koshi River for 8-10 days of whitewater fun.

Itinerary: Generally at least a two nights or longer stay is suggested to see what the park has to offer. We have not made a specific itinerary with this reserve but it can be put in place of any of the Chitwan itineraries or added to any other kind of trip that is requested.
